Sadly this one seems to be heavily overcropped
(Though still thanks a whole lot!)
Cropping the sides for standard aspect ratio is a mandatory part of scanning and processing . We can’t just put out the non-standard resolution.
Ah yes, but sadly it cuts away part of the panels here, and at times even the speech bubbles (P019.jpg makes it very obvious)
Some pages the speech bubble is quite close to the inner fold edge, so while cropping it may cut abit of bubble as well but as long as it doesn’t go through the speech itself, It’s not an issue.
Well, it cuts off parts of the panels and text several times (and sorry I typo’d, I meant to write P029.jpg).
Though just wondering, why is reaching a certain aspect ratio so important? Wouldn’t readers fitting to height / width just achieve the result as cropping them?
Checking the books myself, unfortunately it’s one of those books where the speech bubbles are very close to the inner fold on some pages. Most artist or rather publishers avoid putting them close to edge, since It gets annoying even for ordinary readers. There is no way to avoid cutting into it sadly.
As for Aspect ratio, it makes big improvements to readability on different devices (Note books, E-Books, smart phones, etc)!
All resolutions are based on Standard Aspect ratios and an image with standard aspect ratio can easily scale down or up to be viewed in full screen by the device. On the other hand non-standard images can’t scale properly on a standard resolution and look weird (Stretched or having black bars on the side, etc). It’s the same as trying to use non-standard image as your desktop wallpaper and it won’t scale properly no matter what.
These scans are made to be readable on different devices and not just PC and having standard aspect ratio is a necessity ! Following the universal aspect ratios allows for the best reading experience.
Apology for the long wall of text. Just wanted to clarify.
I see. Many thanks for the detailed explanation and all your work!
